10/05/2009 - Versus Rawtenstall (Away)

Church signed A. Asmat as substitute professional for the day from Earby Cricket Club.
Rawtenstall won the toss and elected field in overcast conditions at the Bacup Road ground. The game started with light rain in the air, and Church were soon in a precarious position at 7 for 3 with Sagawat Hussian, Adam Greenwood and Substitute Professional Ali Asman all out cheaply. Philip Sykes and Ryan North led a mini revival putting on 50 for the forth wicket until Sykes was out for 23 in unfortunate circumstances, with the ball rolling back on the stumps after a forward defensive. North then followed shortly after for 19, showing signs of why skipper Gilrane promoted him to open the batting in the absence of the injured Alec Holt. Church then slumped to 59 for 7 until a excellent 50 partnership between Mark Gilrane and Levi Wolfenden brought Church over the 100 mark.

Despite starting in the rain, the umpires showed inconsistency by bringing the players off in conditions not too dissimilar than at the start of the game with Church on 108 for 7 with 14 overs remaining, Mark Gilrane (22 not out) and Levi Wolfenden (24 not out).

This proved to be the last action of the day due to persistent light rain, both teams will attempt to do it all again next Saturday (16th May) on the first fixed date for replayed fixtures.
